Location service is always on

Seems to have only happened recently when I got my epix 2 but the location icon is permanently on and google is reporting it's the connect app.

If I disable precise location, the icon goes away but eventually it will switch back on.

What gives?

  • I've got the same issue.  Especially after the phone has been idle for a long time (for example after getting up in the morning).

    ISSUE:

when I switch on the phone I can notice the "location request warning" icon on the top right -> I  check the last app that has requested location  info --> the app is: "Connect". (I've tried to wait but the "location request warning" never goes away and battery drain is relevant and associated with the Connect app) --> I then force kill the "Connect" app and the warning goes away, app then starts working well again (this meaning that when "Connect" needs location info, will do so for a brief period of time and then stop doing so. -showing the warning and then stopping to do so- (probably on a scheduled basis checking for weather information for the watch)

My phone is a Google Pixel 6 running Android 12 and the app has no limitations on running in the background.

  • If I recall correctly, having location running became an Android requirement to connect a Bluetooth device a few years back. This started after an update to a new version of Android (somewhere between version 5 and 8 of Android). I don't recall exactly which version as this was probably 5 years ago at least.

I have pixel 6 pro as well and yes you are correct, I see the problem after I wake up and it never goes away until I disable precise location.

I didn't have this problem with the forerunner 935 but I never received weather information on this watch.

I haven't seen the issue for a few days now.

  • I've written to customer service and the response has been quite useless. They said to turn off location services.  I've written back and now are waiting for a more intelligent answer.

  • Any update on this? Having the same issue on the Pixel 6 Pro.
