Garmin is not shown in Android-> Bluetooth (coppled) devices, although sync is working and app says connected

I would like to use my Garmin as Bluetooth device for Smart-Lock of my mobile phone, that means as long as my mobile phone is near the garmin, the screen of the phone will not be locked. But I can't see the garmin in the list of coppled devices. In the app the Bluetooth status is: connected

What could be the reason and how do I get the garmin device in the Bluetooth list of coppled devices?

Thanks

  • The Garmin watches use Bluetooth Low Energy, not regular Bluetooth. As far as I know, Android smart unlock is only possible with regular Bluetooth devices. (As far as I understand, the technical reason is that in Bluetooth Low Energy, the devices are not actually continuously "connected", but only form a connection when there's data to exchange. That makes it less suitable for smart unlock, which requires the phone to constantly know if the watch is near.)

  • Thanks alot for the answer and the explanation, that makes sense.
