Lack of low-intencity training

I get advice that I lack low-intencity training, that my training is to focused on high intencity training. Days when I don't run I get "recovery" status. Does the device count what I do in between activities at all? Or do I need to start activity on more low-intencity activities such as working in the woods, garden-work etc? I suppose that would definitely count as low-intencity activity as much as walking. And it should definitely not count as recovery.

  • You need to log low intensity training for Garmin to see that training. Walking and long slow distance runs are great for getting low intensity activities.

You might have to adjust your heart rate settings. Many people got max heart rate set too low which makes most activities high intensity.
How did you come up with your max heart rate? What is it today? What is the highest heart rate you have logged during an intense workout?

  • Thanks for your reply.

So how to handle everyday work activities? A couple of hours with a chainsaw in the woods can be just as challenging as an hour in the gym, but I just log one of them. Should I log "hard work" as well, and then how should nI log it?

I think the max-pulse is the default according to my age, it's now set to 183. The highest I've tracked so far is 192. If I change max to 192, should I change the zones as well?

  • Do you want to log work in the woods as training or not? It is something you will have to decide on your own.

Your age can't be used to set your max heart rate. It must be measured and best is to do a test at a clinic. Your max should be at least 192. Probably more like 200.
The zones should be adjusted accordingly.

I'm 45 years old and use 199 as my max heart rate. I will try to do max heart rate test at a clinic when the pandemic restrictions are lifted...which they are on Monday!

  • I don't know really. I'm new to Garmin, former fitbit-user and with Fitbit it was really annoying with the watch automatically logging activities. But my main concern is I don't want my watch to think I'm sitting by the TV as soon as I don't log non-sport activities. Smiley

I changed max pulse to 192 to begin with. Good idea to test it under more controlled forms.
