New Badge Challenges

I see that Garmin Connect has a badge for a full marathon and one for 100 mile bike rides.  I have done several half marathons and 50 mile bike rides.  Will they create badge challenges for those with 1/2 the points to the full version of the activities.

  • There are badges for both the Half Marathon (4 pt • Run 13.1 miles in a single activity.)

    and a 50-mile ride (4 pt • Ride 50 miles in a single activity.)

Assume you recorded these activities with a Garmin device. You ran at least that distance without going over the next distance. For example, if you ran a marathon, you don't get a badge for both the marathon and the half marathon. You did these events after the time they became available on 4/3/2018. These are also non-repeatable. You cannot keep getting the half marathon badge every time you run 13.1 miles.

I don't see these in the list of available badges in the garmin connect.

  • Maybe you've already earned it. Tap the "Earned" tab to check.

Also, on Garmin Connect Web - connect.garmin.com/.../badges

If you do not see it in either the earned or the available area, then post a link to a qualifying activity from Garmin Connect Web so we might see what the problem is.

Ah I did thank you...I missed it.   Is it repeatable like the full marathon? I've run several halves and it would be nice to get badges for each. I received 2 for my 2 full marathons.

If not, could it be recommended to make it a repeatable badge as well as a 50 mile bike ride.   Both are challenging and deserve at least half the points in my opinion.  Thanks Blush

  • Is it repeatable like the full marathon?

    It is not.

  • Anything can be challenging for someone. I guess Garmin checks the statistics and see how hard a distance is by just checking how many people that run a half marathon more than a handful of times per year. If there are too many it will make it not repeatable.

I run a half marathon almost every Sunday on my weekly long run, but only 1-2 marathons per year. It would be silly to make half a marathon repeatable. In a year I would have at least 40 of them and I'm just an average runner.

50 miles of biking is just around 3 hours of biking so not very challenging. A bit harder than a half marathon of running since it takes longer time. Time in movement is what makes it challenging.

Well congratulations on your weekly half marathon.  I don't think it is silly.  Hence the limit on the amount of times the challenge is repeatable.  Make them worth less then.  For example, challenges are worth one point with a limit of 250.  Per your logic they should not be repeatable.  Just because you are superman ‍♂️  or you think you, not everyone is.

  • I wrote that I'm just an average runner. Many runners run a lot more and longer than me.

I don't like that the challenge champ badge is repeatable. It has been abused a lot and there are many users with several thousands of points. Some are almost at 100,000 points which makes the points system pretty pointless... 250 times is way too high. Level 5 is 300 points.

That's a much better way of stating your concern other than to indicate someone's opinion is "sily".  It makes you comes across as pompous.  I agree that the champ challenge limit is a bit high.  Also, your definition of average may be someone else's elite.  I agree on the time in a challenge but also the length.  I conceed on the point level.  For example, give 1 point for a half marathon up to say 10 or 20 half marathons.  Whether you consider them  challenging or not, it is still an accomplishment and would be nice to be acknowledged.

Also, I blame Garmin not the user.  Maybe they need to monitor more... if not already and change the point system based on the many types of fitness levels of their users.  I would consider you elite deserving of a higher number such as 10 for instance.  I consider my self more of the average depending on the activity.  I consider my 24 half marathons to be alot...and to many people it is.
