Android 12 and forerunner 245 music not pairing

My forerunner 245 with music is not pairing with my phone.  It has worked fine for a year and a half.  I have tried trouble shooting by......

1) uninstall the app from phone and reinstalling--that did not work

2) factory reset the watch---did not work

3) went through Bluetooth pairing in the phone to see if the phone can find it , it shows that it has found the forerunner 245 music but  can not sync it.

4) we allowed all phone and app permissions per Garmin suggestions

5) cleared the cache from phone per Garmin suggestions

6) and made sure we are running the most updated software versions  (watch- 8.20 (39e2382) and phone-android 12)

  • Same experience. I even reverted back to android 11 with no success. It's become nothing more than a simple watch.

  • Maybe that's why my new phone (Oppo) on Android 12 will sync with phone, but not bring up history etc.

So confirming it does work for me on Android 12, it is possible.

  • Hi,

    Was this issue resolved?

I have the same issue, got a Forerunner 245 Music with Android 12 from Galaxy S21.

Before that, I had the Galaxy 8 with Android 9 which works perfectly.

I have removed my Forerunner from the old phone app as it was indicated in the steps and then I tried numerous times to pair it with the new phone with the latest Garmin connect app, it does not pair, it does not even see the watch.

If I try the same on the old phone it finds the watch in a matter of seconds and it is ready to pair it back, but I don't want to pair it with the old phone I want to be able to pair it with the new phone.

    Anyone got any idea???

  • I managed to get it to work after more tries.

I was going to remove the device from the Phone Bluetooth to start fresh but as soon as I hold 2 seconds for the forerunning device (in the phone list of Bluetooth devices) it requested me a code to pair it.

I looked at the watch and there it was a code, I added the code to the phone and I then opened up the Garmin Connect and follow the "Add new device" steps which were successful this time.

I hope this can help others in the same scenario.

  • After retrying with all the app updates, the most recent app update (for my Pixel 3 running Android 12), finally paired my Forerunner 245M. I used to try repeatedly, followed all suggestions, and this time their fix worked. In the past, Connect would find my phone and my watch issued the 6 digit code to input. It allowed me to input it, but never paired. Now things are back to normal & I'm so happy that Garmin continued to work on this bug. So often tech becomes outdated never to be touched again, but Garmin (albeit quite late) delivered.
