intensity minutes recording wrong / swimming

Hi all,

I use the Garmin fenix 6 and the HRM Swim chest strap when swimming in the pool. All recordings of the strap work.

However, I am hardly credited intensity minutes. Today, for example, I had a workout of about 45 min which I performed and tracked via a training plan on the watch.

The Connect app shows correctly (approx 15 min in HR range 5, 16 min in range 4 etc, average heart rate 156); anaerobic and aerobic training effect etc.

But only 12 total intensity minutes moderate and 1 minute high.

Where is the error here?

Edit: they are counted when doing other activities like cycling or cardio.

Thanks in advance for your help

  • I have the same problem exactly, I swim once a week 2,000 meters at around 40 minutes, get out exhausted. My 7 day load jumps by about a 100 points, but the intensity minutes nada

  • Have a look at the section "Watches That Support Swimming Intensity Minutes" in the document How Does the Intensity Minutes Feature Work? | Garmin Customer Support to see whether your watch supports Swimming IMs.

If it does support it, please post a screenshot of your daily HR, and a link to the concerned activity.

  • hi Trux,

    thanks for your rely.

according to the link you sent me, my Garmin fenix 5X does not appear in the list, and hence does not support recording intensity minutes in swimming activities. but...what i find strange in this is that:
    - my older Garmin fenix 5 did happily record intensity minutes, so the newer garmin fenix 5X doesn't?
    - meanwhile i did a a shorter oceanwater swim, without any HRM, of 500M and the watch happily recorded intensity minutes for that swam (even though it wasn't intense at all)

    so by way of elimantion:
    - either the problem is with the HRM, that once i use a HRM for recording my heartbeat during the swim this for some reason blocks the Garmin Fenix from translating that into intensity minutes, or
    - in openwater sessions (with a GPS on) it does agree to figure intensity minutes, whereas in pool swims (without GPS) it doesnt.

i can do some experimentsto check.
