Strength Training: Using the Lap button to record X number of reps or sets?

First off, I do not wear my watch while lifting (kettlebell work--need my wrists free and clear) so it is sitting motionless during my lifting workouts.  (So getting the watch to sense the motion of each Rep is out of the question.)

I would like to use the Lap button to signal the end of a Round of X number of Sets, or a Set of X number of Reps.  I've tried building programs in Garmin Connect but the only way I can see to program the Lap button counter is at the Rep level.  No way I'm hitting the Lap button after each Rep while working out.  I'd like to just do a full Set, hit the Lap button, and have the program advance to the next Step, having recorded that I just did 10 reps or whatever.

Anyone find any solutions for this?  In the past I just used the Lap button after each round and kept all the weight, sets, reps info offline (literally on paper).  So I could see my HR data and total time for each Round but that was about it.  Seems like Garmin Connect should have the capability to do better than this.

  • That is exactly how it works. You start a strength activity. It will start set 1. You press lap button to end set 1 and start the rest. Press lap button again to start set 2 and so on. After each set you get the option to edit the number of reps.

This is how it works on Forerunner 945 and it is probably the same on all the more advanced watches.
