Bug: New personal record that can't be accepted

Sometimes at the end of a run i get a message that I have a new personal record and when I look at the workout in Garmin Connect Android app I see a message with a link to accept the new record:

But when I click on it there's no new record, nor the usual accept button:

What's more annoying is that whenever I enter to the workout, i see the same (see 1st image) ...

Garmin: please contact me if you need my user id to see my stats, maybe it's helpful to debug it.

  • But again: everything (web, android and even the watch) already has the record!

In that case the problem might be with the FIT file of the activity. Export it as "Original", unzip, delete the activity from Garmin Connect, and then pass it through the Section Remover of FIT File Tools (without removing anything), and import the resulting file back to Garmin Connect.

And if it does not help, then ask someone with the FIT File Repair Tool program, here on the forum, to have a look at file closer - there data of the record that is stored inside the file is quite likely corrupted.

  • I don't understand you. Why do you want me to start "hacking" with fit file and who knows what, when it's certainly a bug somewhere in Garmin (probably in the code that pops up the same message again and again, but even if you're right and it's a bug in the fit file it's a bug that Garmin need to fix. I didn't touch the fit file and I won't, that way at least they have a chance to find the problem)

  • Why do you want me to start "hacking" with fit file and who knows what,

Because you asked for help, and I am trying to help. Besides that I do not believe it is a problem on the server. I bet it is the data in the file that is corrupted. If there were a problem on the server, we would see hundreds of similar complaints here. However, if you prefer waiting that it disappears alone, you are free to do it, of course Slight smile

  • Here's the response I received from support that finally helped me. In short the 1k distance was disabled in my running records settings. Once I enabled it i could accept/decline it. I still think this is a bug, because it causes a bad user experience. I don't recall ever editing which distances to display, so it is probably the default.

As it turns out the banner you are getting is by design. There are two PR's that have not been excepted for a 1 KM and 1 Mile distance. Both are set to not be displayed when going to the personal records page. Please see: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=unLSr8lk0z5EUCi0k8Yys8

"NOTE: If you have not accepted a PR in Garmin Connect or if the particular PR is hidden, your device will continue to notify you of new PRs until one is accepted. To resolve this, you would need to un-hide and either accept or reject the automatically detected PR activity. If you know of a PR activity, you can also assign it manually. Once you have accepted or assigned the PR, that information syncs to your device so it can accurately notify you when a new PR has been achieved."

To resolve this, you need to enable the additional distances to be displayed (even if just temporarily) and then accept/decline the PR's as needed. There are instructions in the link above

  • Confirmed on a fresh Garmin Connect app iOS and Garmin watch.

My first run and I got a couple of personal records. I accepted them all.

But, I kept getting the notification in Garmin Connect that I received a new record.

I had to go to running “Personal records” and enable “1 km” and “1 mi” to appear on the list. Both running records are by default NOT enabled.

the 1 km and 1 mi record should be enabled by default in the list. Right now this is poor user experience. Can you ensure that this get fixed, please?

  • I agree with @alta. I don't understand what can be the reason behind this strange black listing of distances, and worse the blacklist not being used everywhere. If I were Garmin i would just show all of them. If the want to "complicate" it the based on the user's choice of distance unit filter only the relevant distances.

  • I have the same issue on the garmin connect app but I could accept the new records from the connect we page without any issues. The new records will then sync and can be viewed on the app as well.

  • This just happened to my son today on a race. At the end of the race he synced the watch to GCM and it prompted him to accept 3 new records. However when clicking on the accept button GCM always displayed an error message. After accepting them on the web they show up correctly in GCM.
