Two workouts saved to watch but not appearing in files or Garmin app

I've just been out for two workouts with my Garmin instinct and when synching up with my phone they're non-existent.

The saving process went as normal.

Really confused and disappointed by this. All I could find in terms of files was an err_log.bak in the debug folder around the time that I saved the second workout.

Does that indicate that an error occurred?

Possibly a corrupt activity (fit file). Try a manual upload of your activities to Garmin Connect

If you get any message other than Import Complete, then there is a problem with the file. It is likely corrupt. Attach it to this thread. We can take a look to see if it is repairable.

Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
Or upload the fit file to a file sharing service, such as OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc., make the file public, then paste a link to the file in your post.

No I mean that the .fit files aren't there on the watch, despite the saving process appearing to go as normal. The files aren't there, but there is an error log file saved to the time of saving.
