Virtual Climb badges using Forerunner 630

So yesterday I tried to claim the first Virtual Climb badge - The Narrows (334ft). I used the stairwell in our (new) office building and climbed 35 floors (5x7).  I used "other" on my watch as the activity.

Unfortunately, the watch recorded zero floors - although plenty of steps.

I can't see how to manually edit the number of floors I climbed in the Garmin online app (after changing the activity to "Floor Climing").  So can't get the badge.

I also notice the ascent is zero.  So, I assume this is because the Forerunner 630 does not have an altimeter, and/or the GPS was not enabled - since it was done indoors.  So, I am guessing I need to be somewhere where the watch will pick up on the GPS?

But grateful for any advice.  Thanks.

  • I can't see how to manually edit the number of floors I climbed in the Garmin online app

I never tried it in the mobile app, but in Garmin Connect website the floor count can be edited. Just click the pencil icon on the activity's page.

  • Thanks, and sorry; by "online" I meant the website!  The only pencil icon I can see is the one next to the name (currently "Other") - it does not let me edit anything else as far as I can see.  This is the case when I'm in the list of all activities, and when I click into the actual floor climb activity.

  • Another pencil should be in the top right corner of the activity page, right next to a start icon, a share icon, a padlock icon and a cog icon. Can you perhaps post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

  • Indeed there is !!  I missed this.  Thank you.

I was able to manually change the 0 floors to 35 and this earned me the badge.  It also added 107m (350ft) to the ascent indicator.

Which seems open to abuse, I suppose, but I have no intention of falsely earning any badges.

Next step (heh!) Druid Arch - 75 floors (so almost 11 times up the full set of stairs).  The security guard/consiege on the ground floor is going to think I'm a nutter - I may take the elevator down to the 1st floor instead and do 12+ times.

    Thanks again.
