Power when cycling activity ?

Hi All

I use Garmin sensors: Speed, Cadence, HRM Pro when doing indoor cycling through App Zwitt or Rouvy AR and at the end of the summary table the results can show power parameters.

But when cycling outdoors and also using those sensors with the F945, there is no power parameter. The reason why? Is it necessary to install a power meter on the pedal to determine it?

Thanks

  • Yes. You must have a power meter of some kind. There are other options that pedal based power, but that is what Garmin offers.

  • The apps will give you an estimated power based on you heart rate, cadence, speed, and their control over virtual environment of the activity you are doing. (Ever noticed how it sunny with no wind in the apps?)

In the real world you will need a power meter. The Forerunner 945 will have no idea what the real world environment is. (What is the wind speed at any given point along the route? Is it a head wind, cross wind, or tail wind? Is the ground hard or soft? etc.)
