Garmin's help page here support.garmin.com/.../ says that Activity Class is used "along with the user's profile" to calculate calories burned during a given activity. It then provides a table of Activity Class numbers and the corresponding "training frequencies".
What I would like to know is: when setting our ACtivity Class in user settings, are we supposed to count the intentionally recorded workouts (for example, things like "run" and "ride" that are pro-actively started and stopped on a watch or cycling computer), or is this supposed to describe what our life is typically like _apart from_ those defined workouts?
Example: I walk my dog every day in the woods. I record these walks using the "walk" activity on my Venu 2. So if Activity Class means including those, then that puts me in Activity Class 8 or 9 - which, according to Garmin, makes me an "Athlete". Except that I am not an athlete. And walking my dog every morning doesn't make me an athlete, obviously.
Basically, I have a daily workout rotation that goes: bike / rest day / run / rest day / bike / rest day, etc. But EVERY day, rest days AND days when I run or bike, I walk the dog for at least an hour at a very brisk pace, recording those as "walk" activities.
So what is my "Activity Class"? Based on the info Garmin provides, it's really not clear to me. Garmin ought to provide a bit more guidance here.
