Garmin connect is consuming lots of battery with new phone.

I've been using Garmin Connect for almost 2 years, previously with my Samsung S10+, for my Fenix6 and it is great. Before it would use 1-2% per day, maybe.

Now it is using ~1.5% per hour. This is as much as everything else on the phone put together. I am using the new Samsung Z fold 3 if that matters.

I tried putting the app to sleep, that worked for part of a day. I tried clearing data and cache, that did nothing useful. I even uninstalled and reinstalled. That seemd to do the trick until this morning when I had a workout. Since the workout, it is back to consuming 1.5% per hour.

Any thoughts? This is doubling my battery usage on my phone.

  • Some ideas:

Have you turned off battery management for Connect? If you have battery management turned on it might try to kill Connect and it will restart which use extra battery.

Check the permissions for the app. Does it have all permissions enabled?

  • Hi, yes I tried all that, to no avail.  Permissions all in place.  And actually it all was transferred from the old phone with Samsung Switch, so all should have been well.

What I have settled on is this.  Each morning when I take phone off charger, I force stop Garmin Connect, then I launch it from the same dialog.  This seems to work for a day.  If I force stop but don't launch, it will still take lots of power.  Now instead of 25% per day, it is consuming like 0.6% per day.

Annoying that I have to do this but it make a huge difference.

    Thanks for trying to help.
