Garmin Coach Missing Map Data

I have Garmin Connect on am Android device, an Instinct Solar watch and use the Garmin Coach for running. I've never had an issue before tracking my runs accurately in terms of time, distance and GPS data on the map.

I started a new plan last week though and for some reason the map is only showing my cool down and not the warm up and main body of the run.

It looks as though others have had a similar issue but no resolution posted here.

Please help. I can provide app data / screenshots etc

  • I'm leaning towards there being an issue with GPS acquisition.

From the event log of the fit file you posted...

The first timestamp that contained GPS data wasn't until  21:57 into the run, with no significant change to HR, cadence, or pace.

I would suggest reviewing the 2 Garmin support links above. Especially regarding waiting for GPS acquisition and connecting your device to a computer and syncing with Garmin Express. Then go for a short test activity to see if it will record GPS signals at the beginning of a run. Clearing out the .fit files from the  \GARMIN\ACTIVTY folder on the watch might also help.

  • Ok thank you for your time, I will check it out next time i head out.
Just surprised given that I've never had a problem acquiring GPS before when running the same route from the same start point.

I've synced with Garmin Express & cleared my .fit files too.

Thanks again, will post update after test "run".

  • I've been experiencing the same behaviour on both watches and separate Connect apps in our family since end July this year. No activity maps are being uploaded. It started at the same time for both watches, apps, and accounts. The watch does pick up the GPS location relatively quickly and shows a green circle to confirm it's ready before we hit start. This is the same for all activies - regardless of part of a traning plan or just started individually, and it's also the same for all activity types.

  • Could you post the fit file from the watch of one of these activities with no map?

  • Thanks I did check the JSON files and confirmed there were no GPS data included.

However, after a month of frustration and nearly losing it at times, I did a full power down on my Fenix 3HR again this morning, and suddenly the maps are back. I'd be keen to hear if others see the feature return upon a full power cycle.
