Can I fill in the distance if my battery died before I finished a hike?

My battery ran out on a long day hike. Is there a way to edit my activity to reflect the true mileage? This was an out-and-back hike, so I just need to go from the point where it quit recording back to start.

  • , yes it is possible, but not a simple process built in to the app. Some assumptions would have to be made, such as your  return pace and other metrics would mirror the original activity. It would require some 3rd party tools like Fit File Repair Tool.

I've done this before. It went something like this

    • Export the original activity as a .fit file from Garmin Connect Web or your device
    • Also export the original activity as a GPX file from Garmin Connect Web
    • Using Garmin Basecamp, open the GPX file, invert the track, then export that track as a GPX file.
    • Using Fit File Repair Tool, import the original. fit file, then add positional data using the inverted GPX file.
    • Export as a fit file with a new name
    • Using Fit File Repair tool, again import the original .fit file, then append to it the reversed fit file, while modifying the timestamps so that it starts with the end of the original file.
    • Export the fit file, then import into Garmin Connect Web.

Or you can bypass all this nonsense and zip then attach your activity (.fit file) here and we'll try to make it happen. Slight smile

Attach your Garmin to a computer and look for the associated fit file located in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder of the device.

    • Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
    • Or upload the fit file to a file sharing service, such as OneDriveGoogle DriveDropbox, etc., then share a link to the file in your post.
