Wrist HR not working during activity

Hi, my Instinct watch is not showing wrist HR. I also occasionally see a message 'Ext HR connected '. But I am not using a external HR strap so I don't understand this message!.. Any ideas? I'm close to resetting the watch and starting again.

There should be a setting to use an external heart rate strap during activities. Turn that off.
