Hiking Badge

I am being presented with a 'hiking' badge this month but I don't have hiking as an activity. Will it recognise 'walk' as a hike if I select this? I have the Vivo Active 3. Hike is not on the list of activities to add either. TIA.

No, but you can try to change the activity type to "Hike" in garmin connect after the activity is uploaded. Not sure if this will…

I tried did not work - is yours a forerunner - also has it gone off your challenge for the badge.

I just verified it. I recorded a "Run" activity with my watch, then uploaded it into garmin connect, and then in garmin connect I changed its type to "Hike". The activity was counted towards the july hiking challenge badge.

Could you post a link to the activity so we can have a look?

The device doesn't matter. The validation for the badges are done in Garmin Connect. Note that manually created activities do not count for challenges.
