Records on device wiped by Connect

Device: Fenix 5 Plus. Keeps "records" like fastest 5 km, 10 km etc on device. Works perfectly, until device is connected to a phone with Connect Mobile. Then all records are wiped from the Fenix 5 Plus. Everything is off on the Fenix: device upload, true-up etc, precisely because I want the data on the device _only_.

  • You can send the records to the device.

Browse to connect.garmin.com/.../personal-records and click Send to device.

  • Thanks for your answer, and my question wasn't very clear I now realize.

Device Upload is set to off in my account, so there is no data at all in Connect. I only use Connect Mobile for LiveTrack. Data and settings remain on the device, and should be left as they are.

About half a year ago some of the settings (for example preferences for tone settings), and the personal records got deleted after every activity. Maybe an update to Connect Mobile, or to the Fenix 5 Plus. I didn't know which, stopped using the Fenix with Connect Mobile, and everything on the Fenix worked perfectly again.

Yesterday I thought I'd give it another try, but the same issues came up.

I was hoping there were folks who also have Device Upload set to Off and can comment on how well settings and data are left alone on their device.

I haven't tried an old Connect Mobile version, so that's what I'm going to do next.

  • Have you tried to use Garmin Connect fully and sync every day and send the personal records to the watch and then just continue to use it?

The devices aren't intended to be the storage for your activities. The device will get full and your activities will be deleted so it isn't a good long term plan to just keep them there. If your watch malfunction you will lose all your activities.

  • You're certainly right that storing everything only on the watch isn't a good idea, and it's good to warn people not to rely on watch storage only! It's just that I don't use Connect for storing my data, I use USB transfer and process things locally on my system. Fully syncing with Connect would be the best solution but (skipping details here) it's just too much extra work for me.

Anyway, thanks - and although I regret that Garmin Connect without Data Upload doesn't work all that well anymore, the Fenix 5 Plus is truly awesome without it.

======= Edit: I should have been more patient! Today the records are back including yesterdays! Happy!
