Can I follow a created route on my Android phone? (watch face is too small)

I have created a cycling route in the "Courses" tab on Garmin Connect (web). The route has been exported to my Fenix 6, and appears in my Garmin Connect Android App.

Big Question: I now wish to follow the route from my phone (larger screen) instead of on my watch. If this is possible, how do I go about doing this?

ANY assistance would be highly appreciated!

Marius

  • You will have to use a 3rd party app for that. The Garmin Connect app cannot do that.

  • Thank you so much tmk2! Appreciate the prompt feedback.

Thought as much the deeper I started digging. Do you have any suggestions, as there are many out there?

  • Sorry, I don't have any suggestions, as I don't use my phone for navigation. If I were to use it, I'd probably just use google maps.

  • Thanks again. Found an app called BikeGPX.

In the interest of others reading this, my problem was not navigating (that I can do with Google Maps) - my problem is following a pre-created cycling route. Created the route on Garmin Express - synced it to my Garmin Connect mobile app, but that's where Garmin's part in this stops (on the phone anyway). The Garmin watch face is too small to follow.

Anyhow, got it sorted. Saved the route as a GPX file. BikeGPX (free) allows me to upload the route to my phone, and then follow it. Thanks again.

  • Fantastic! Thanks so much for this. Why Garmin can't do this beggars belief!!

  • They can, but they are a hardware manufacturer and their whole business relies on hardware sales.

If you are biking you should get an Edge bike computer. I got Edge 1030 and the big screen is absolutely great for following courses. I've used my Forerunner 945 for biking, but the map is way too small.

  • Check out Garmin Explore.

It syncs to your watch, so when you start a pre-created course on your watch it automatically sends the route the Garmin Explore app. From there, you can open the app and see your highlighted route on your phone with your current gps location. Perfect for following your route.
