Problems with steps in mountain with Vivoactive 4s

Hello,

I never had problems with steps walking on flat. Today I went to mountains, walking for more or less 12 km with a difference in height of 750 m.

Vivoactive registered about 11k steps but it's too low for 12km. My phone (huawey) registered about 19k steps. Kilometers and difference in height instead are quite precise.

Might be because I've used sticks for walking that don't permit to detect steps? I've noticed that most steps are lost during going up, while going flat or down steps are detected with more accuracy. Should I choose a different Activity? I have GC in Italian language and I think that I choose Walk (Camminata in italian).

Thank you.

Kind regards.

  • Might be because I've used sticks for walking that don't permit to detect steps?

Yes, it sounds probable. You may need to hit the ground with the stick stronger, to make sure the movement is detected. Possibly it will often detect only every second step anyway, since the hips movement won't be detected when the hand is firmly supported with the stick on the ground.

Should I choose a different Activity?

The activity type has no effect on the step detection, except that some activities (like for example cycling or swimming) turn off the step detection entirely.

  • Thank you trux, next week I will try to hit the ground with the sticks stronger, exspecially during the ascent.
