why does the heart rate changes even when i am not wearing my vivoactive 4 watch ?

i have noticed that the heart rate in my watch is changing evsn when i am not wearing my vivoactive 4.

  • My new 55 showed a way too high BBM when I was walking- I removed watch from wrist and it continued to show way too high (occasionally changing a beat or two) for the rest of my walk How can this be?

Does not happen with my Instinct 2. It stops showing the HR just some 3-5s after removing it from the wrist. However, if you point the sensor towards something where it can sense some periodic changes of light, it might lock on it. It is also possible, that the firmware on your watch behaves differently, and it takes much longer to stop showing the HR. In the support documents, Garmin speaks about 15s floating average of the HR, but if it takes longer than that before the HR stops, then I would definitely contact the Support, and have them fix it, or having the watch replaced.

Before doing so, though, connect the watch over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express, check for updates. Then disconnect, and reboot the watch. Try again, posing the watch flat on the desk or somethin dark, non reflexive, to avoid that it lock on some pulsating light source. If still continuing to display the HR for longer than 15s, make a video to demonstrate it, and send it to the Support.
