Lost measurements while cycling

Hi, i bought Garmin Venu. I was testing walking and it worked well but I got a issue with cycling. The measurements were lost many times. For instance I cycled around 20 km but I measured only 7 km.

My phone is xiaomi mi 9t pro.

  • Do you have any idea what I should do with it?
  • Did you have a GPS fix before you pressed start?

  • Yes, I did. Actually I made 3 tests and the results were always the same - lost measurements

  • Could you post a link to one or several of those activities so we can have a look? You must make them public so we can view them.

  • Sure. Below you can find the example.

Check out my cycling activity on Garmin Connect. #beatyesterday

  • Thanks.

I see many jumps in the track that indicates that the logging was stopped and then started after you had moved. That could explain the missing distance.

This behaviour can be caused by the auto pause function. If you don't need it I suggest that you turn it off and see if that helps. Or maybe changed to "When stopped" but I think it is better to manually stop the ride when stopped than automatically stopping the ride every time you stop at a stop sign or red light.

  • You could also go to Every second instead of smart recording.

  • Auto pause feature is disabled so I wonder it is something else

  • When you zoom the map to the max, and you slowly move with the mouse over the Speed graph, you can clearly see that the GPS signal is being lost on the places where the Speed graph has the gaps. That is the reason for the shorter distance recorded. It is not related to the auto-stop feature.

As  advised, turn on the Every Second Recording in the Global System Setting on the watch, and also enable the option GPS+Galilleo in the setting of the Cycling Activity profile. And then make sure to have always a fresh ephemeris file. The safest way to update it, is by connecting your watch over the USB cable to Garmin Express, and checking for updates there. The ephemeris file updates also over Garmin Conect when you start the activity, but that's often just in the time when you are leaving your home and losing the WiFi connection with your home router, while not having the mobile data connection established yet, hence the download fails and you then ride without up-to-date ephemeris data.

  • Thanks a lot. I had two updates and I turned on Every Second Recording in the Global System Setting on the watch. So probably tomorrow I will test it again. Thank you, guys!
