Inaccurate Data on the app

I ran 21kms and splits are 21km and a bit of a 22k. As usual but the run is recorded as 20.38km. This is a 1st for me as I literally ran 21km not 20.38. The watch beeped 21km, the map shows 21km but the app records, 20.38?

  • Thanks Scillo.

That may explain it, I honestly didn't notice the 16th Kilometre shortfall, I did stop for water just after the 15th km,and proceeded to the finish.

    1. In Today's jog I had no stop and everything was cool.

    Thanks again everyone for clarity.

Check out the option auto-stop in the settings of the Running Activity profile, and I'd suggest turning it off if it is on.

If I interpret correctly what I see on on the graphs and on the map, it looks like the auto-stop function stopped the current lap when you turned away from the road to the Driving Academy building, and then it took a while before the activity started again. It looks like the total distance counter continued counting, though, in the meantime.

It looks like an improper implementation of the auto-stop function on the side of Garmin (if the lap is paused, the total data should match it too), but there is probably little you can do about, appart from turning it off. And if it is already off, try turning it on, restart the watch, then turn it off and reboot again. It is uncertain whether it helps, but worth of trying.

You could also try reporting it to the Support, but I am little bit afraid that they won't care too much.

  • If the total is 20.38 and lap 16 was only 360 meter which means a total of 15.360 km at lap 16. Lap 21 will be 20.360 km if the following laps were 1 km.

A tip is to turn off the lap key for the activity type. Then there is no risk adding extra laps.

  • Additional laps are usually not a problem. They are simply inserted into the lap table, and do not influence the total distance in any way. I use manual laps in addition to the auto-laps routinely, and never experienced a problem.

From the data I saw, it looks really more like a problem of the auto-stop function not working properly - it correctly paused the activity and distance counting (probably even little bit too long) - both for the current lap, and for the activity totals, but the auto paused section is not reflected in the sum of all laps (still including the paused section).
