I agree that your device is impaired without the app. However, you still have the ability to sync using Garmin Express at least until your Garmin Connect Mobile issues are resolved.

Which phone do you have?

I'm using the Samsung S21 Ultra.  However when I tried to sync with my old phone, a Samsung S10+, the exact same thing happens.  Which leads me to believe it's definitely something to do with the sync, probably on the watch side

Same problem app keeps crashing..Tried with 2 different phones (OnePlus 8 pro and 7t) and Huawei tablet.App crashes after login.Google webview is not the problem in this case.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.  Maybe was a software/firmware push that caused the issue.  Hopefully will be rectified sooner than later

It could be related to the recent Android bug of so-called WebView that started to crash a lot of apps. Look for example at the following document, or google the topic - there are plenty of other ones on the web:

In the meantime the bug was fixed by Google, but you may need to update the WebView component manually, if it did not happen automatically yet.

Hey Trux,  thank you for the suggestion.  I tried it though and had no luck.    Even went as far as restarting my phone between each step (uninstalling updates, uninstalling connect, reinstalling connect.)  Thank you again tho :)

Instal an older version of the app from an unofficial APK archive such as the apkssl.com or apkmirror.com, there are users reporting it worked for them in similar cases. 

I've tried that too.   When I try to pair my phone it gives me a message saying i need to update to pair the device.   I've been on with Garmin Support for 45 mins now and they seem to have no clue
