How many courses do you currently have on the watch? The max number of courses for Fenix 5X are 30.

When speaking about routes, do you mean Courses that you are sending to the device with the Garmin Connect Mobile app, or something else? Did you try sending the course to the watch over the USB cable with the help of Garmin Connect Web + Garmin Express?

That doesn't work since me watch is not recognized by any computer anymore. Can't update maps and so on.
Three months ago the feature to transfer trainings vanished. So can't transfer trainings anymore. Have to schedule that training with the calendar then it's transferred. So clearly a software issue.

What computer do you use? PC or Mac? Did you try it on another one? Did you check whether you can access the device's storage in a file manager? What USB Mode is set in the System Settings on the watch? If nothing helps, consider performing the master reset of the watch, and reconnecting it to Garmin Connect and Garmin Express again.
Doesn't work. Tried all that, can't connect. Service offered to replace my watch with a refurbished one. Can't afford that at the moment.
Have you also tried the master reset/factory reset?
You did not answer (almost) any of the question I posted. If you did, perhaps we could recommend where to look.
Answering your questions lead to a dead end but sure can do:
Tried it on three different computers one was a Mac
Used three different cables
Storage manager does not show the watch as a drive
Tried both USB modes mainly MTP
Did a master reset already
