I joined a challenge for the 3mile badge for the weekend 12th - 14th March and completed 3.1 miles. Using my Garmin "Other" Activity and have not been awarded said badge...

Yes, that's normal. Only activities of the type Walk count towards the Walk badges. Change the type in Garmin Connect.

How do I change the activities that are on my Garmin forerunner 235..

I usually press the red button and I have run, bike and other?

As I wrote, change it in Garmin Connect. Select Edit in the menu of the activity, and change the type to Walk.
