Vo2 decreasing should I be worried?

In my 60's I had a fitness age around 30. After some time off I've just started up again but the last 5 Vo2 max readings are getting  lower on each daily timed 45 minute walk. My fitness age is now 54. No change in my health but do I need to see a doctor or if I stick with it should I expect to see an improvement?

  • The VO₂max measured by the device is just an estimate, and the result depends on many conditions. If you are worried, make a lab test to get an accurate VO₂max value.

  • Same thing happened to me, my "fitness age" went from 20 to 42 (I'm 52) when I took a few enforced months off training.

If significant time off training has passed since your last VO2 was recorded then it'll likely be trending to your new value from the old value. At some point it should stabilize at your new current value, then start climbing as you get fitter again.

Health and fitness aren't the same thing - VO2 can drop pretty quickly if you stop exercising.
