Why is there NO WIDGET for Garmin Connect app?

Why is there no Widget for the Garmin Connect app on Android like the one they have for Fitbit?  I switched to a Vivofit 3 for a Fitbit One and am hating the manual syncing and lack of widget for my phone.  You would think they would have one...  It is 2021 after all?!?

  • am hating the manual syncing

Manual syncing? My watch syncs automatically. First after the completion of any activity, and second also periodically. Although I am not familiar with Vivofit 3, the manual tells it does sync automatically too:

From Syncing Your Data with the Garmin Connect Mobile App

"You should manually sync your data to track your progress in the Garmin Connect Mobile app. Your device also periodically syncs data with the Garmin Connect Mobile app automatically."

  • What do you want to be displayed in a widget? There are so much data and all users like to view different things.

Are people still using widgets? They drain battery and you often need to open the app anyway to view all the data you like to see.

I think the My Day view in the app is what Garmin thinks you should use. Just one click away.

  • Just one click away.

Personally, I have on the forerground practically all the time, so I do not even need the "one click". It is my full-screen widget Smiley

  • I will try what you are suggesting and leave the Connect app open and see if it syncs automatically.  Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Also check if there any battery optimization active for the Connect app. If so, Android might shut it down. Turn off any battery optimization for the app to make it work as intended by Garmin.

  • I checked and it was NOT optimized.  Thanks for the suggestion.  I will be going for a walk today and I will leave the Connect app open and see what happens.  Hopefully everything will go swimmingly. Fingers crossed

  • This is an unhelpful response. I don't understand why people , instead of providing an answer to a specific question, ask why the question was asked. Clearly someone wants a widget so your question was answered  before you started typing.

I personally like seeing a step count when I look at my phone which is available on all the competitors.

  • I didn't ask why. I asked what he wanted to display in the widget and then gave my view of widgets.

The question asked was why there is no widget and we can't answer that. Only Garmin can give that answer and they don't usually answer those type of questions in the forum. Some of the things in my answer could be the answer to why. We can only speculate.

For a developer you should always ask why someone is asking a question, how they want to use it, why not (in this case) a watchface, watch widget, the My Day view etc. is enough. Ask as many questions as possible to understand what the users really wants. Often it is something else and the users doesn't know all other possibilities.

  • And seemingly still none in 2023. I want the goals IN MY FACE. Data after the fact does no good and push notifications seem naggy. But if I pick up my phone at 11:30pm and can catch up on flights in 2 minutes...I'm gonna. At least more often than if I climb into bed after midnight and see..close but failed.
