Personal records on device disappear

Not super important, but I'm curious. My Fenix 5 Plus has always kept correct track of my 'personal records' until a few weeks ago. Since then, I either get new records for every run (no matter if the times were slower), or the maximum amount of time that fits in a 32-bit integer. It is the same in different firmware versions, and I did a reset to factory defaults twice, so I don't think this is the Fenix's fault.  In GCM, "Device Upload" is set to Off, so connect.garmin.com/.../personal-records shows no data, which is what I want (data only on watch, not in Connect). Still, it seems as if GCM interferes with the PR's on my watch. Has anyone else noticed this?

  • I get new PRs after every time I delete my fit files in \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder or do a factory reset. I don't believe the watch has any knowledge of PR history on Garmin Connect, only on the watch itself.

  • If you had Garmin Connect data storage enabled, the PR table would be stored there too. And you could go to the page [Personal Records in Garmin Connect Web], select the Running or the Cycling tab, and then click the blue button Send to Device to upload the PR table back to the watch. However, since you tell you disabled the GC storage, you cannot do it. In fact you probably cannot even approve new PRs due to this, and that's possibly also the reason the watch does not announce any new ones, or announces them wrongly.

  • That suggests selective memory loss on my device. Not great.. hope nothing else breaks. No warranty. :(  Strange that it stopped working after all those years.

Still, I'll test with no phone connection at all for a week to rule out any influence of GCM.
