Sync activities only (not steps, sleep)?

I would like to sync only activities, but not all-day activity-tracking data (steps, sleep etc). I do that now by having Device Upload set to Off and using the Connect Web interface to upload activities. But I wonder, is there something I'm overlooking that accomplishes the same in an easier way?

  • Well, you could do it also in the opposite way - keeping the full sync to GC, and then removing the daily data (HR, Sleep, Stress, Steps,...). That could be easier automated, if needed - for example by writing a custom Javascript code, or using an app for running macros.

Using a 3rd party app, instead of GC could be another option. Have look for example at Golden Cheetah if it matches your needs (an Open Source community app).

Just out of curiosity (if you do not mind answering): what is the reason behind it? I do not quite see one. Oppositely, I'd tell that by removing the monitoring data you may be missing important data for analyzing your fintess status and progress. Its probably also messing up data like VO₂max, Training Effect, etc.

  • Have you tested to disable activity tracking?

"Enable Activity Tracking if you want this device to track your daily activity, sleeping and calories burned throughout the day.
Disable Activity Tracking if you do not want this device to track your daily activity and wish to extend the battery life of this device."

Thanks for answering. I do use Golden Cheetah, and like it a lot, but I miss a couple of things that Connect has. I'm on the fence here - develop something myself or use Connect (for a while).

I copy all data from the device once a week. If I sync via GC, the activity-tracking files are deleted from the device, which necessitates a tedious export-import-delete cycle. But using Selenium for example is an option.

So I was just wondering if there was an easy way to selectively upload activities only - but the 'manual upload' via GC on the web is the easiest for now.

Thanks e7andy - it crossed my mind, but I want to keep the activity tracking data.

You ideas helped me to figure out a simple idea: keep upload off for one device, and take another one to tag along for activities, and sync that. I have a backup watch I can use for that. Thanks!
