Intensity Minutes

Hi,

I have changed my Intensity Minutes from Auto to Zone 4 for Vigorous and Zone 3 for Moderate. However the IM shown on Connect doesnt seem to match data shown elsewhere. An example of this is that today I did an activity that registered 19 mins in Zone 3 and 7 mins in Zone 4 however the IM minutes in Connect show moderate 12 and vigorous 1.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

From the document How Does the Intensity Minutes Feature Work on My Garmin Watch?:

"In order to earn intensity minutes credit, you must reach or exceed 10 consecutive minutes where your heart rate is elevated above the threshold that is considered moderate intensity."

In other words it means any continuous time you spent in the Z3 (or above) that was shorter than 10 minutes, does not count for the IM calculation.

Thanks - so it doesnt total up the time in zone in an activity? This would mean therefore that interval training would not register anything as HR would drop below zone 3 in the 'rest' periods. Seems a strange approach.
