Watch BT connection unstable when phone wifi is on

My vivoactive3 pairs with the phone, but the bluetooth connection is unstable unless I turn off wifi on the phone.  I have tried with Samsung J2 and A71.

With the J2, I have to restart the phone, unpair the watch and re-pair before it will connect again, but the connection drops out shortly afterwards (ie.  within a few minutes) unless I turn off wifi on the phone - when it disconnects, I have to restart phone, re-pair etc. to connect it again each time.

I bought a Samsung A71 thinking the older phone was incompatible with the newer watch, but the connection to this is just as unstable, unless I turn wifi off - there is an improvement with the new phone, that it will usually reconnect again automatically (sometimes almost immediately, other times it can take up to 20 minutes).  I've tried reseting everything, from networks/connections, to a full factory reset and then installing only the Garmin Connect app, but the problem remains.  I've been monitoring it and it is connected only about 50% of the time, so I end up missing notifications.

With either phone, the connection seems stable if I turn off wifi on the phone, but this is not really workable!

The J2 worked fine with my previous vivosmartHR (including with wifi on!) but Bluetooth connection to the A71 is unstable with both watches (though less unstable with the vivosmartHR, than the vivoactive3).

I took the Samsung A71 back to Samsung Service Centre today and they tried it with a couple of other Bluetooth devices but they found there were only problems with the connection to the Garmin watches (which require Garmin Connect app).

Is this some problem with the Garmin Connect app?

Personally I have no such problems (also using a Samsung phome), but among the milions if Garmin users, there are, of course, numerous people having all kind of problems, including problems with the Bluetooth connectivity. However, in most cases the phone configuration is at the root of the problem. Missing permissions, too aggressive battery saving or data saving options, App Overlays, suppression of backgrouns apps, et, etc. are the most usual suspects.

Check out the Sync / Connection Troubleshooting Guide - it lists all known reasons for BT problems, and the tips for fixing them. It includes also some tips specifically for Samsung phones.

Thanks for the quick reply Trux, but I've tried all those steps except the last 2.

I did full factory reset (when Bluetooth reset and cache clearing didn't help) and only installed the Garmin Connect app so there shouldn't be any conflicts with other apps.

It is not a syncing issue - watch syncs fine, when it's connected - it's a connection issue (or rather, a frequent DISconnection issue).

Yes, I understood, but the guide is for both of it. If you are sure you tested all of ithe guide's hints and it did not help, then I am short of ideas. If you find the solution, please report it, so that the guide can be complemented. Untill now I did not see a case similar to yours, here on the user forum.
