NO CALLER ID

After Garmin Connect update, on android playstore, I cannot see the caller's id out of a sudden. I own a garmin instinct graphite on 6.0.1 marshmellow.

  • Make sure the app permissions are set to allow access to Contacts

    Android Settings > Apps > Connect > Permissions > Allowed > Contacts

  • I have checked them already and everything is as before. It worked fine until the last update of the app. It's not the first time that something goes wrong after an update... A few weeks before the notifications didn't work! Now it does it when I have a phone call. Too many problems...

  • Try restarting your phone (and watch too, to be sure). Also, don't you use TrueCaller or a similar spam filtering app? They are known for not passing the caller ID through the system notifications.

  • I did all these but nothing changed. Also I don't use true caller or any other app of this kind. As I told you before the watch worked fine, until the update. I guess I'll have to wait for a fix...however I am afraid that Garmin releases updates without proper tests and various problems come up to users.

    Thank you for your assistance.

  • As I told you before the watch worked fine, until the update.

I have an Instinct (firmware v12.20), and am on the latest update of the app too (v4.38.1), and the caller ID shows just all right.

  • Exactly the same for me v12.20 and v4.38.1. Which version of android do you have on your phone? Mine is v6.0.1 and here is the key point. I will give you an example that made me very sceptic as far as the updates are concerned: a few versions before of Garmin Connect the notifications didn't work where the caller id was ok. However when I downloaded the app on a more recent android version 10.0.1, if I am correct, in my wife's phone, it worked fine. I am pretty sure that if I download it again in a newer android version there will be no problem.

That is why I refer to Garmin that they should test on every android version before they release an update.

  • That is why I refer to Garmin that they should test on every android version before they release an update.

It is not necessarily the Android version, it can be also the brand, diverse settings, and permissions, or some additional apps - there are countless of combinations, so if Garmin ought to test them all before releasing and update, I am afraid we would have updates once each 500 years.

If you know it worked with the previous version of the app, install the older version (i.e. from apkmirror.com or from apkssl.com), and disable auto-updates of GCM in Google Play store.

  • I think that every developer has to take under consideration all the potential users. In any case it will be better if they mention that the app is usable only for the latest android version. So many other applications work fine on different android versions. I strongly agree with the difficulties that exist in such applications but when you are talking about Garmin you expect things to work fine and not to be afraid of the problems that an update may cause.

I will downgrade to the previous version of GC to have my watch 100% operating.

  • I have found that if you switch your dialer app some of them don't work properly. It does not sound like you did that but just in case...

  • As far as my phone's options are concerned I haven't changed a thing. Everything is as before where the GC was ok.

I also connected the watch on another android phone with version 10 and I can see the incoming calls. As I said before on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with 6.0.1 the problem exists and the incoming calls are not visible.
