Double problem: charged Vivosport sometimes doesn't sync my running activities, and when I put them in manually afterward (was tracking run and then it just disappeared), the mileage doesn't count toward badges. Help!

Hi! I'm a newbie since Aug 2020. In the last few months my Vivosport sometimes abruptly stops recording a run, and then I have to enter it manually on the Android Connect app. That's a problem (I turned on lock screen so my jacket sleeve doesn't accidentally pause or stop the activity, but it still happens sometimes). It happens less when the watch is fully charged, but still occurs even with about 1/3-1/2 battery. Occasionally an aborted activity will still sync with the app, but not usually.

Now I've noticed that when I manually input missing activities, the mileage doesn't get added for badges (December Rundown, Jan Rundown). I understand this may be to deter cheaters but is there anything I can do to make my mileage count when the watch has aborted the activity?

  • Do you regularly clean up the folder //GARMIN/Activity/ on the device? The full storage could be a possible reason for the aborted activities: Removing Recorded Activities to Free Up Space on a Garmin Fitness Device

Edit the aborted Activity (or the one you started after the abort), and modify the distance in it, instead of creating a manual entry. Edited Activity will count for badges, manual activity won't.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have never cleared out that folder, and will check it out.

Unfortunately, when an activity aborts, there is usually no evidence in the Connect app that it happened at all (I do have data for more steps and heart rate increases, however). So I don't have a partial run I can edit, unless I notice in real time and can start a new activity while I'm still running.

  • You can start it anytime (even now), and edit to match the reality (including the right time/date), rather then creating a completely manual entry.

Oh, gotcha! Thanks for the tip!
