Edge 520 Plus, connected to Android phone, rides not saving

Edge 520 Plus

Garmin Connect on Android.

They pair and connect perfectly.  Then at the end of my ride, I press "Save".  Nothing happens on the Android phone.  No data is received.

This used to work.  It used to save to the Garmin Connect app on the phone, which would then automatically upload the ride to Strava.  None of this is happening anymore.

The only thing that's changed is the phone.  I got a new one recently - Motorola G9 Plus (upgraded from  the G7 Plus).  As I said, the phone and the Edge 520 Plus connect to each other just fine.  I get the normal notifications on the Edge for incoming text messages, etc.

I looked in the "Device Sync Audit" section on the GC app on the phone, and it says "No data available".  All it shows is my username (twice) at the top of the screen.

Any thoughts?

  • Not sure whether this is relevant, but when the phone and the Edge are connected, the Bluetooth icon on the Edge flashes slowly, continually.  It shows as "Connected" - but I don't recall it flashing before.  I thought it always used to be solidly on.

  • I just went into Ride History on the Edge, and for my latest ride, I pressed on "Upload Ride".  After thinking for about 20 seconds, it came back with "Upload Failed".

  • it came back with "Upload Failed".

Try a manual upload to Garmin Connect Web

    • With your Garmin device connected to your computer via USB
    • Open the drive associated with your device.
    • Look for your FIT file under the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder
    • Drag and drop the file on to the Garmin Connect Import Data page.

If you get any message other than Import Complete, then there is a problem with the file. In that case, please zip the file and attach it to this thread. We can look at it to see what might be wrong and try to repair it for you.

  • Thanks.  I just uploaded the latest ride via that link.  It worked perfectly, and fed through to Strava correctly as well.

So the file is correct.  But there's still an issue uploading from the Edge to the phone.

  • The only thing that's changed is the phone.  I got a new one recently

Make sure you using the same Garmin account that you used on your old phone. When you try to sync to your phone do you see the white sync circle turning green? If so, then it is syncing somewhere, but not to the correct account. And not to the account that you used to connect to Garmin Connect Web (where you did the manual upload), which is the account that is linked to strava. It's common that when users get a new phone, they inadvertently create a new Garmin account when installing Garmin Connect app on the new phone instead of using the same Garmin account as used on the old phone.

See this link to fix this issue: Data is Missing from My Garmin Account After Syncing to resolve the issue.

Also, I've moved this thread to the Garmin Connect android forum, since this is likely not an issue with your Edge device.

  • Thanks again for your reply.

It's the same account.  I have only one.  When I uploaded that ride manually today, it also showed up on my Android phone a little while later.

And I don't believe the issue is with the Garmin account - the upload isn't even making it from the Edge to the phone

  • So you are NOT seeing the green circle indicating successful sync?

Not sure what you've tried already, but these steps and video seems to be the most helpful to fix Bluetooth communication issues between the Garmin device and the phone.

    • Remove Edge from Garmin Connect App. Settings, Garmin Devices
    • "Unpair" Edge in Android Bluetooth settings
    • Reboot phone, restart Edge
    • Put Edge in Bluetooth pairing mode. Menu > Settings > Phone > Pair Smartphone to manually enter pairing mode.
    • Pair using Garmin Connect

If that doesn't fix your issue, then try this more extensive list of troubleshooting steps: Sync / Connection Troubleshooting Guide

  • Many thanks!  Unpairing and repairing seems to have solved the problem.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with this!
