Can I buy a heart rate monitor that is not compatible with my watch and have it just sync directly to the app on my phone?

The only solution that would loosely fit your description is the HRM-Pro. Some features of this strap are not compatible with some watches, and yet the strap can be linked directly to the Garmin Connect…
