Voice lap alerts while not configured

FYI in case anyone else has unwanted voice lap alerts.. Yesterday I got spoken lap alerts (distorted speech, sounding more like a frog than a human) from my phone, while "Audio prompts" was, as always, set to Off. I got rid of them by setting Alert Volume under Lap Alerts (also set to Off) to minimum.

Is there a permanent solution for this? Audio prompts are still set to off, but I keep having to adjust the volume to 0 now and again to get rid of these spoken lap alerts. The speech is no longer distorted, but I still don't have any need for a spontaneously talking phone.

  • I do not have that problem, and cannot tell why you do, but you could try turning the audio prompts on, leaving the menu (or perhaps even starting a dummy activity), and then setting it off again. Also make sure you do it in the Device Settings » Activity Options of all Garmin devices you use (in case you use more than one at a time).

Thanks! I'll try that and update here later.

I tried setting audio prompts on, synced watch, did activity, set prompts off, synced again, another activity, but they don't go away. Restarted phone and watch as well.

Because nobody else mentions the same issue, it's apparently unique to my combination of watch, phone and syncing habits (uploading data to Connect is set to off). It's a bit annoying but by now I'm used to setting the phone to mute before I start an activity.

  • Try removing all devices from Garmin Connect, and then adding the one(s) you use, back again.

    That worked, thanks!
