Virtual Climb Badge

OK, I'm asking this question again, hoping for bullet point answers, as I'm about to set out for these ones soon.

These badges are virtual, which to me means "indoors" - correct?

These badges can be earned using stairwells indoors, correct?

I have a Fenix 5S, which setting should I pick to record this properly?

I can go up and down the stairs (leave watch running) until I reach the desired gain for the badge I'm seeking, correct?

Thanks so much!

  • These badges are virtual, which to me means "indoors" - correct?

Not necessarily. In fact I did all of those badges outdoors, using the Floor Climb activity profile with enabled GPS, helping me to better track the ascent/descent, and to give me the possibility to enable the option "Elevation Corrections" later in Garmin Connect, in the case the barometric altimeter should fail giving accurate data.

Not sure what you mean. But if you are asking for the Activity type you should select, then use "Floor Climb". If your watch does not offer it, use any other activity, and change it to that type later in Garmin Connect. As I wrote, doing the climb outdoors with GPS enabled may give you some advantage.

I can go up and down the stairs (leave watch running) until I reach the desired gain for the badge I'm seeking, correct?

Sure, but I recommend doing always a bit more (say 10%), just to avoid a bad surprise, if you find the watch did not record all floors or all the ascended height, you thought it should.

  • Hey!  Thanks!  So this last weekend I did a run/walk with the watch set to "run" and had a gain of 1,896 elevation - no badge.  So the setting: run, trail run, floor climb .... etc. is key for earning these badges.  I'll do a short test run selecting Floor Climb and leaving the GPS enabled.

  • So this last weekend I did a run/walk with the watch set to "run" and had a gain of 1,896 elevation - no badge

As I wrote, the Activity must be of the type Floor Climb. You can record it as Running, but you have to change it to Floor Climb later in Garmin Connect, if you wish to get the badge.

  • Got that. Thinking my whole reply didn't come through. Said I would do a short test run, GPS enabled, watch in Floor Climb mode. I really appreciate your help and super fast replies!

  • You do not really need to make a short test run - if you already have a Run activity with the desired elevation gain, you can change it to Floor Climb right now.

  • I get it, thanks for reiterating that. The extra challenges in the stairwell will come in handy on crappy weather days (live in AK) ;)

  • One more question if you don't mind. There's a badge Treadmill 50 (record 50 treadmill activities) is there somewhere I can go to see how many of the 50 I have left to go? Thanks!
