Halloween badge

I apparently had my settings wrong. I joined and met the challenge but it didn't record. Is there any way I can still get it?

Yes, next year What settings were wrong? Did you fulfill the conditions for those badge? What badge are you referring to exactly? There were a few Halloween badges:

Halloween Running
Halloween Cycling
Halloween Walking
Trick or Treat
Share the Scare

Depending on the details, there may or may not be a chance to get it retrospectively.

Halloween walking 13 mile challenge. I properly joined but my distance wasn't shared because I used a setting that didn't publically share my steps/distance. I have since changed it and my steps are being counted for the November challenge

You do not need to make the Activities public. And your steps are irrelevant for the Walk badge, such as the Halloween Walking. You only need to record one or multiple Walk Activities with the total distance of 13 miles or more, between October 25-31. If you have those Activites, you should have the badge, regardless of your privacy settings.
