Got a Pacemaker The other Day. From thar Day none info about body batteri. Is this an effekt of the Pacemaker?

  • s this an effekt of the Pacemaker?

I am afraid yes. The Body Battery and several other features of Garmin devices (i.e. Stress Level, VO₂max, Sleep REM,...) rely on a feature of the heart rate, called Heart Rate Variabilty, which is crucial for the analysis. Unfortunately, when you have a pace maker, the HR is constant, and there is no more variability, since the HR is dictated by the pace maker.

Garmin uses the technology from Firstbeat, and they clearly state that "The analysis in Firstbeat SPORTS are based on heart rate and heart rate variability and therefore are on not suitable for people with cardiac pacemaker, difficult heart disease or whose function of autonomic nervous system is disturbed."  [source]

Many thanks for Your answer. I was not surpriced of it - had red about variability  but not fully understood). Before the pacmaker my rest pulse was on average about 40 but somtimes dropped to 30. No my restpulse lies on 60. /Rolf

  • Very helpful response. I believe HRV is measured at night time when the resting heart rate is lowest prompting the pace maker to pace the heart. Is there a way to measure HRV during the day when the resting heart rate is higher and above the level where the pace maker kicks in?
