I've been using Garmin devices as cycling computers for a couple of years now, and currently have an Edge 520 Plus. For my fitness watch, I was with Fitbit for a very long time, and in their app my bike rides, measured on Garmin, were always displayed with my heart rate data (as measured by Fitbit) overlaid. So Fitbit could pull in ride data from Garmin and overlay their own heart rate data on top. No problem.
Earlier this year I switched to a VivoActive 4s for the simple reason that I was tired of measuring my fitness in two separate apps, Fitbit and Garmin Connect. I figured it would just be easier to have everything in one place. For the most part, I've been very pleased with the switch, but it's really annoying that no heart rate data shows up in my bike rides. I know I can set my watch to specifically broadcast my heart rate, but I don't particularly want to have to. It's a pointless extra step. And I also like to use my watch to see what the time is when I'm riding, and it only shows heart rate when it's broadcasting (also pointless, but that's a rant for another day).
When I look at my heart rate data in Garmin Connect, my bike ride is marked on there at the time I was riding, so obviously the app knows when I was on my bike and can apply it to that section of my day's heart date data. So why can't the app also insert that same heart rate data into the stats on my bike ride? If Fitbit can do it, why can't Garmin?
