is there an option to manually upload to strava without copying files?

why can't i just tell the app to load a missing activity? seems ridiculous that if an activity doesn't load automatically there is no option for you to make it try again. my particular case is that 2 activities didn't load to strava but one that occurred 10mins after did load ok. so i don't think there is any issues with either system, was just some momentary issue but now i have activities in garmin app, and garmin connect online but not in strava.

  • There is no way to tell the app to try to sync again to strava. You can upload the fit file manually to strava here - www.strava.com/.../select

  • Thanks , seems like a design flaw considering all the possibilities of either app failiing to transfer the data. surely there is a config file in the garim connect which logs that it has been loaded, and determines whch have already been loaded by comparing the activities list and the list of ones it thinks are loaded. editing or removing this file would result in the entire list reloaded as if it had never sync'd before.

  • urely there is a config file in the garim connect which logs that it has been loaded

It actually works the other way. Garmin has an API, allowing 3rd parties like Strava to access the data in your account. As soon as there is a new activity, Strava imports it into their database. You'd need to ask Strava to allow a reimport at later time, because Garmin is unable to push the same Activity again to any 3rd party - the data is still accessible through the API, but Strava tagged it as imported on their side, and won't reload it anymore. You need to request the feature at Strava. From the point of view of Garmin, the data is there and is available for the re-download, anytime.

  • Thanks for your response, so on the Garmin side, there is nothing indicating that the upload has occurred for a particular activity? How does strava know there is new activities to request, is a notification sent from Garmin to Strava when a new activity is available, but not which ones, strava then requests the entire list and checks which ones are missing?

There are two possibilities - either Strava polls the API continuously for new items, or there may be a signal occurring at every new item to sync. However, even if you export, delete, and then reimport the activity in Garmin Connect (which would likely trigger the signal for a new activity too), nothing happens at Strava, which suggests that Strava identifies the activity by its ID, and does not reload it again.
