Pulse Ox Reading Drops to 0% Issue

Please see attached. I set up the Pulse Ox sensor (blood oxygen level sensor) to work during sleep time only.

I noticed that some nights, the readings drops to 0%. Not sure why it does that but I'm wearing my watch tight enough. Not too loose or too tight.

I tried 2 different watches and both did the same thing.

Any suggestions?

  • I see two possible reasons, though there might be more of them:

    1. Battery saving mode kicked in, and since the IR light of the PulsOx consumes a lot of power, it is one of the first functions to be turned off when the battery power is low

    2. You coud suffer sleep apnoea, which induces perifereal vasoconstriction, making it difficult or impossible to read the PulseOx data (due to a very limited blood flow in the extremities)

Seeing there are mutiple drop outs of the PulseOx data during the night, the second option seems to be more likely
