Vo2 värde

I run 2.15  km in 12 minutes and I am 66 years old which I  thought was good but Garmin connect app think it is bad and I am like 72 years old which ofcourse disappointed me. I use another site exrx.net and it gave vo2 36.768 while Garmin gave 32.

Who to beielve? Any ideas,thanks.

  • Who to beielve?

Make a lab test at a sport doctor. Estimates by watches, or by some app will be always just an approximation, though from purely theoretical view, the Firstbeat algorithm used in recent Garmin watches with Heart Rate Variabilty claim to be within 5% of lab results. I cannot guarantee though that the claim can be trusted in all situations.

  • Also, if you just started using the watch, it'll take a while (a month at least) for the VO2max estimate (and fitness age number) to stabilize, even if you run several times a week.

I checked exrx.net and it is just a standard formula used with very few in parameters. I think that Garmins formula is more sophisticated since it also takes the pulse values into account.

Check that you got the correct pulse value settings in your account. Max pulse, resting pulse, pulse zones etc.

  • Thank you all. It is really help. I notice that Garmin use 15 min to calculate and I run only 12 min. Anyway I think I am doing well in generall. A 66 year man who run with a spead more than 10km/hr of  10 days can't be bad at least not too bad. Wink rgrds
