Notifications arrive late or never - Approach S62/OnePlus 7T

I just bought a Garmin Approach S62 and I see that notifications (especially incoming calls) arrive very late (after 4-5 seconds). Sometimes they never are displayed. I have a OnePlus  7T.

I set all permissions to Connect app, disabled battery optimization, cleared cached, rebooted both Phone and watch...nothing seems to work...

Are these lags normal?

  • 4-5 seconds is a long delay. We have not had smart notification delays reported with any of our outdoor watch series. On my Approach S62, it is a brief pause between my iPhone and my Approach S62. Please ensure your Approach S62 software is fully up to date using Garmin Express on your computer. Also ensure both your Golf APP and the Connect Mobile APP show fully up to date when you check your Google Play store.

All software is latest - no change.

  • The only way you will know if it is your Android phone slowly pushing things or the watch slow to react, would be to try any other smartphone. Given there have been no other reports worldwide, it is likely not the Approach S62 but anything is possible in these one off scenarios that don't make sense. If it is a watch issue, IE: hardware issue causing it to behave slow, the long 4-5 delay for incoming smart notifications will continue with any other smartphone tested on.

I also have a Huawei band and the notifications (including incoming calls) were delivered instantly. So, I doubt it is the phone...

  • If that is the case based on your own testing, please proceed with returning your Approach S62 back to the retail store as hardware defective since we are not receiving any other reports of delays with other owners using their Android smartphones.

Ok, I will do that. I tried with a different phone and it is the same...

  • Hi - I have just bought an S62 and I am having the same issue - my phone rings, and then up to 10 seconds after the phonecall (at which point my phone isnt actually still ringing) my watch starts to ring. is there anyway to fix?

  • The Approach S62 has limited access/control over notifications on your phone. Depending on factors like environmental interference with bluetooth, phone settings, and other smartphone related settings for unread app notifications...the delay in the watch receiving is often not an issue with the actual watch itself.

The "Phone" app must be communicating through permissions with the Garmin Golf app running in the background in order for the incoming call to immediate register on your S62 as a notification.

The How Do I Set Up Which Notifications Display on My Garmin Device? Garmin Support page offers more information for reference if needed.

Any of those continuing to have concerns should reach out to Garmin Support for our office in their region to discuss the issue more in-depth, as this issue can often revolve around the region/make/model of phone being used...and further info would be needed from you to gauge the issue better.
