The small grey letters on a black background are hard to read, especially outdoors in the sun.

How to change the background on Garmin Connect?

You can't for the app itself. You can make changes, such as "screen zoom" via android settings, but that will impact all your apps. Other option would be to use the web browser interface on your phone, so you can pinch & zoom. Not ideal.
