It would be great if the app could automatically retrieve weight data for the user who uses a connected scale (other than Garmin’s)

With a 3rd-party app it can work, depending on the make/model of your scale. I use a Withings scale along with MyFitnessPal. It usually works.

how do you do? I also have MyFitnessPal but my weight is not going back up in Connect! I have the calories, but not the weight!
