Edge 1030 stopped Pairing with Moto G7

So this is interesting, after a phone update and going on a bike ride yesterday, I noticed my Edge 1030 is no longer paired with my phone. I've already troubleshot everything possible (See the list below)

When I pair, my phone adds (BT) to the beginning of the name. So it says "(BT)Edge 1030" and I select it. After waiting a few seconds "completing setup" it then gives me the pairing key. Then we wait another 60 seconds and I get "Pairing Failed, setup was not successful." I've done this process about 20 times and several hours of trying new things.

I've connected it to Garmin Express and updated everything I could. Does adding (BT) cause this issue? I don't know why my phone does this!! Is this my phone issue?

Renamed Edge 1030 "name" several times

  • When I pair, my phone adds (BT) to the beginning of the name.

    Not sure whether I interpret the information correctly, but I understand that you are trying to pair Edge 1030 with your phone from the side of the phone, which is not the way it should be done. The pairing needs to be initialized from the side of Edge. See the instructions in your user manual at this page:

  • I should have mentioned that haha. Yes, I go to Pair Smartphone on my Edge and then press continue. I return to GCM and select Add Device. It automatically assumes it's the Edge 1030 and I select Connect It. Then GCM shows a list of bluetooth devices and I see (BT)Edge 1030.  It says "Link Connect with (BT)Edge 1030" and I click OK. It then says Completing Setup of your Edge 1030 device. It displays the 6 digit pairing key with the Edge 1030 Beeping. I click Pair. The bar moves on GCM for about 60 seconds and then it says Pairing Failed. I've never had this happen before on this Edge, or any edge devices I've owned. 

  • If you have the chance, try it with another phone (i.e. a friend's one) to see whether the problem is on the phone or with your Edge. If it turns out to be a problem with the device, call Garmin Support and have them assist you.

  • Tried it with my wife's Pixel. Same issue, Pairing failed. Just did a factory reset on my Edge and pairing failed again. Sounds like it's the Bluetooth on the Edge. That's a bummer as it's only 2 years old. 

  • I do not quite bet on the BT failure. In your place I'd try to install an older version of Garmin Connect Mobile first. Up and then there are diverse incompabilities with certain devices, so I would make sure to use a version I know already worked originally. Download and install it from an APK archive such as apkmirror.com or apkssl.com
