Hi my watch battery is gone to pot ever since Garmin went down. The watch is about 18 months old. Help.

  • Have you rebooted your watch? If that doesn't solve it a factory reset might be in order.

Thanks for the reply, I've done both but no improvement. Things have gone from bad to worse. There's seems to be a sync problem, I suspect Garmin devices are suffering still from the attack they experienced.

  • Mine is working well even after the attack. It seems to me that GPS drains battery quickly. In the summer when I use the GPS daily, I have to recharge every 2 to 3 days. In the winter when I workout indoors, my watch lasts 4 to 5 days.

What I would suggest is to temporarily turn off as much as you can to see what might be causing the battery drain. That includes BT/ant+ sensors, GPS, even the heart rate leds. If your battery life improves, turn one sensor on and see when your battery starts to deplete rapidly. Then move on to the next sensor until you find what might be causing the drain.

Failing that, I'd call Garmin support. Most of the time, they're really excellent. Calling is usually better than sending an email.

Mine has done the exaxt same thing.  Ive done a factory reset, and even a connection to garmin express.  Its gone from using 30% battery in a day to 70% battery and i have not changed any settings.

  • I do not see any way how the outage could have any impact on the power consumption of your watch. Perhaps there was a firmware update recently for your model, that could have influence on the consumption or perhaps just the battery indicator (without really impacting the power consumption). It is really diffiult to imagine that the outage could cause any faster battery drain. Did you test the true battery life of your watch? Try charging it fully over night, then let it run in the smartwatch mode until it dies. Only then you'll know the true battery life. The battery indicator may be misleading.

Must be a known issue since I chatted with support right after posting this and they are doing a free replacement without even trying to do any troubleshooting.
