How do I prevent an Android device to connect to my Fenix 3 watch?

I have two devices. One with Android 6 and one with Android 9. Both have latest Garmin Connect but I only want one of those devices (the android 9) to try to connect my Fenix 3 watch. I constantly see "pairing failed" on my watch because both of them try to connect and the Android 6 device always failed. This is happening eventhough I haven't even tried to go into the "Pair device" mode on my watch.

I tried to remove my connection to my watch on my Android 6 device but that also removed the connection on my other device. Any suggestion on how I can prevent my Android device to connect to my Fenix 3 watch is appreciated.

  • Did you remove the device from Garmin Connect?

Yes, I removed the device but that will remove it from my account and not just from one of my android devices. As soon as I add a connection in either android device to my watch it will start to connect from both android devices.

  • If you do not want to use the watch with both Android devices, remove Garmin Connect from the one you do not want to use. If you want to use the watch with both of them, pair the watch with both devices.

That's the problem. If I remove the Fenix 3 watch from one of my devices it is automatically synced to all devices and removed from all of them. How do I prevent that from happening?

  • As I wrote, either rermove the Garmin Connect app from the Android device that you do not wan to use (you can still use the web interface if needed), or pair the watch with both Android devices.

Ok, I take it then that it is not possible to use the android application without Garmin forcing synchronization to my watch.

  • it is not possible to use the android application without Garmin forcing synchronization to my watch.

Why would you want to have a Garmin Connect account without synchronizing it with the watch? It does not matter whether you synchronize the same account from one, from two or from any other number of phones or devices. Each activity will be synced only once, regardless of the number of devices you sync to.

  • I understand where the OP is coming from. I have an F3 paired to GCM on my phone & use that to sync with my Garmin account as that's the device I carry most of the time.

I also have a tablet with GCM installed (A bigger screen is handy sometimes with old eyes) but whenever I enable BT on the tablet; Because my F3 is registered to my Garmin account it appears on both devices & even though the F3 is paired & connected to my phone; GCM on the tablet still tries to pair with the F3 without me instigating it & I constantly get BT pairing popups on the tablet & BT passkey prompts on the F3.

I don't want to pair my F3 with the tablet but regardless of this GCM tries to do it, without me telling it to do so.

@hotdogpartysausage Thanks for that explanation. That explains my use case much better than I did, and confirms exactly the problem I have.

    Why?
